Met Gala

9 Years of Melania's Met Gala Looks

Tuesday, November 29, 2016

Donald and Melania Trump have been a staple at the high profile Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala for the past decade.  The business mogul and his model wife have shelled out $50k each for the coveted tickets.

Melania's red carpet looks for the Met Gala have evolved over the years with the change in trends.  She rarely goes with the theme of the gala but always looks glamorous for the occasion.  Even though fashion isn't as in love with Melania now as they've been with Michelle Obama, we're celebrating the Slovenian model's nine years on the Met Gala red carpet.

For her inaugural Met Gala, the then girlfriend of Donald Trump wore a black strapless gown with a cinched waist.  The dress looks to be a John Galliano creation, which Melania accessorized with layered diamond bracelets and chandelier earrings. She was also a dark haired beauty at that time with raven colored locks.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute dedicated it's 2005 exhibit to Chanel.  For the opening gala, Melania, who was now Mrs. Trump, wore a stunning black strapless gown with a mermaid tulle bottom by Alexander McQueen.  She accessorized the dramatic frock with a Chanel bow broach worn at the knee and carried a tiny Chanel bag.

In 2006, a then pregnant Melania walked the red carpet of the Met Gala looking busty in a white strapless, sweetheart neckline gown embellished with a black ribbon around bust.  She kept this look simple with a statement diamond necklace and her brunette locks worn in a messy updo.

In 2007, Melania dressed in a gold fringed Roberto Cavalli dress and Manolo Blahnik peep-toe heels for the Poiret: King of Fashion themed Met Gala.  We love the flapper inspired outfit.
Melania was pretty in Pink at the 2008 Met Gala.  For the Superhero themed gala, she wore a mermaid gown with a ruffled bottom by Vera Wang.

Melania stepped up her style dressed in a sleek black gown and belt by Dolce & Gabbana for the 2009 “Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion” themed Met Gala.  She wore the belt again with a pink Dolce & Gabbana dress a few months later.

Melania tapped Project Runway winner Christian Siriano to design her 2010 Met Gala gown.  The theme of the exhibit was "American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity."

For the 2011 Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit opening, Melania opted to wear a gold sequined gown by Reem Acra, which she styled with her go-to gold Alexander McQueen Skull Box Clutch.

The Costume Institute paid homage to Muiccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli in 2012.  For the “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations" themed opening gala, Melania went rocker chic in a sharp shoulder white Marc Bouwer Couture mini dress.  She paired the dress with glittery Christian Louboutin Pigalle Follies pumps.

Aquazurra

Melania in Aquazurra & Chanel

It's no secret Mrs. Trump has a love affair with Chanel.  She's often seen toting around a quilted clutch from the iconic French brand to galas, parties and events, including the debates earlier this year. She is a creature of habit and stocks up on things she loves.

She buys the same Chanel clutch and handbag styles in different colorways to match her outfits.  The same goes for her signature Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps and SolaSofia Flats.

Though we rarely see her in anything but Manolos and Louboutin's, Melania showed off her perfect pedicure in the Aquazurra Wild Russian Fur & Suede Sandals ($895) on an evening out with husband Donald. Wearing her signature Chanel Rouge Noir nail polish on her toes, she looked poised for a night out on the town in the fun yet sophisticated fur ankle strap sandal. She paired the sandal with a black dress, black coat and black Chanel clutch.

The Aquazurra Wild Russian Fur & Suede Sandal is a suede covered shoe embellished with black mink fur pompom strap at the toe, wraparound suede ankle strap and pompom ties.

The sandals retail for $895 and come in multiple colorways, including burgundy and dove grey suede. These are perfect for a night out in the fall and winter, especially for a woman of means like Melania, who is used to door-to-door service.

Melania Loves Neutral and Red Shades for Perfect Manicure and Pedicure

Saturday, November 26, 2016

Melania Trump is a style icon that's flown under the radar for several years since she become President-elect Donald Trump's wife.  The fashion and beauty presses have seldom covered her red carpet style.  She's been so illusive that many of her sartorial choices are not highlighted, not even on the red carpet.  It's taken some dig digging to get more information about our soon-to-be First Lady's likes, dislikes, beauty habits.

One thing we know about Mrs. Trump is that she leans towards the minimalist end of the style scale.  She loves neutrals and pops of color courtesy of her accessories.  The same goes for her beauty routine.  She's a creature of habit and doesn't stray from what works for her.

Her brunette locks is always blown out with face framing waves around her cheek bones to highlight her face.  She's been wearing her balayage locks parted down the center for several months now Mordechai Alvow, who's been doing her hair for nine years.

For makeup, Melania likes the focal point on her face to be her blue eyes.  She likes a smokey eye look and usually rims them with black eyeliner and mascara on her top and bottom lashes. To finish the look, she opts for a light pink lip with a little gloss.

In an interview with Allure magazine back in 2011, Melania told the magazine that she likes to get pampered in the privacy of her own home.

" I have a little spa at home. I put together a room where I get massages, pedicures, manicures. It's comfortable in my own home and it's very private. It's very relaxing," she tells the magazine.

Melania prefers to get her well manicured groomed once a week whether she's at home in New York or Palm Beach.  She isn't one to go along with trendy colors each season.  She prefers to keep her fingernails clean with a nude polish.  She wears Essie Mademoiselle, a subtle pink described as "the most classic, grown-up pink."  She also loves Essie Macks, a deep ruby red shade for her nails when she wants a splash of color.

When she wears her peep-toe Manolo Blahnik or Christian Louboutin heels, Melania prefers a deep red shade on her toe nails. She likes Essie Macks and Essie A-List,  a creamy red shade, in the summer and Essie Berry Naughty in the winter.

Melania likes nude pink shades or creamy reds and wine stained colors for her toes.  Though Essie is her brand of choice, she also loves Chanel Rouge Noir nail polish

Ralph Lauren

Ethereal in White Ralph Lauren Jumpsuit

Wednesday, November 09, 2016

Our future First Lady Melania Trump has been flying under the style radar since the election cycle started due to her husband's polarizing stances on policy.  Despite her gaffe at the RNC Convention this summer, she's been a consummate wife to President-elect Trump and mother to son Baron. Though most fashion mags and pubs refuse to cover Mrs. Trump's style as much as Mrs. Obama's this blog will serves as the ultimate destination for everything this former model has worn and will wear.

While the entire world waited with baited breath for the election results on November 8th, our First Lady in waiting was prepping to make her debut to the world as the new FLOTUS.  When her husband Donald hit the stage for his victory speech, Mrs. Trump was right by his side looking ethereal in a white one shoulder jumpsuit.

Melania was a vision in white, opting for a fashion forward jumpsuit by American designer Ralph Lauren, who dressed Hillary Clinton throughout the campaign season.  Instead of a dress like other former First Ladies, Melania chose to set a new tone by wearing the Margerie One-shoulder Silk Jumpsuit ($4,259), a buttery silk number with elegantly draped sleeves and a side slit on the wide leg trousers.  Melania kept the styling of the Ralph Lauren palazzo style jumpsuit simple with a diamond bracelet and pointed toe nude pumps.

Balmain

White & Camel on Election Day

Tuesday, November 08, 2016

Happy Election Day America! Today is the day we all decide if this blog continues or shuts down come midnight. Kidding! In all seriousness, this heated election has been highly toxic for our country with mudslinging from both sides of the aisle.  Donald Trump got the Trump clan into formation and headed to their polling station in Manhattan to cast their ballots for the next President of the United States. Ivanka and her daughter tagged along for the voting trip.  If you're reading this, please make sure you vote. No matter who you're supporting, your vote is important.

As you know, Melania Trump became a citizen of the United States so she exercised her right as an American to vote, which she did today.  The potential future FLOTUS showed up dressed to the hilt.  Mrs. Trump was all business showing America she is ready to be front and center championing causes to "Make America Great Again."

Melania kept her outfit to a neutral tone, opting for a military style, double-breasted camel coat by Balmain on top of a blush pink Michael Kors Sheath dress.  Of course she kept her eyes cloaked from the paparazzi cameras with oversized sunglasses.  Melania is not one to shy away from vertiginous heels.  She wore her go to nude Christian Louboutin 'So Kate' Pumps to complete her outfit.  The $3660 Balmain coat is still available on several websites, including Louisaviaroma, Farfetch and Barneys.

Emilia Wickstead

It's Emilia Wickstead for Pennsylvania Speech

Thursday, November 03, 2016

Election Day is almost here and both candidates are making their last ditch pleas for votes.  Melania joined her husband Donald Trump for a rally in Berwyn, Pennsylvania yesterday in an effort to win votes in that swing state.  The potential First Lady hit the stage to talk about her vision for what she would do as fist lady, which included women and families.

Melania looked poised on stage as she spoke to the large crowd of admirers.  She chose British designer Emilia Wickstead for the event.  Her outfit consisted of a high-waisted pencil skirt and the Emilia Wickstead 'Silvia' silk blouse from the designer's Spring/Summer 2016 collection.

The dusty rose silk blouse has a high neckline with a loosely draped top and fitted waist.  It has 3/4-length sleeves and a back closure, making it perfect for a high waist skirt.  Oscar winner Brie Larson wore the same top earlier this February to the Oscars luncheon. Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge popularized the designer, Emilia Wickstead, making her a global name in fashion.  Her pieces can be found on Moda Operandi, Net-a-Porter and Shopbop.
