Melania in Veronica Beard, Zara in Cape Coast, Ghana
Wednesday, October 03, 2018
It's Day 2 of First Lady Melania Trump's Africa tour and this time, she traveled to the town of Cape Coast, the site of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, for a visit. The somber day commenced with a traditional ceremony from the region's chiefs to grant her permission to visit the historic site.
Mrs. Trump was then given a private tour by Museum Educator, Kwesi Essel-Blankson, who gave her a history lesson about slavery and its impact on the world. She was then guided to the Door of No Return at a slave castle where slaves were piled into ships and sent to Britain, America, the Caribean, and South America, never to see their families again. Mrs. Trump told reporters on-site that she found the visit to be “very emotional.’
FLOTUS kept it low-key with her dressing, choosing an ensemble she wore back in 2017, which consisted of a Veronica Beard Camp Ponte Utility jacket and khaki J Brand trousers. She wore her Manolo Blahnik BB pumps for the morning ceremony but changed into $50 Zara Printed loafers for the tour of the slave castle.
